Customized Mattress Is A Reality In India! Know These Before Placing The Order

Updated: Apr 9, 2021

The standard mattress is a one size fit that does not suit everyone. Some may need a firmer, taller, wider, or softer mattress that is not readily available in the market. Keeping these things in mind, many mattress manufacturers have come up with the concept of the customized mattress. It helps the sleepers get the much-needed comfort and support as it suits their preferences and hence a better option. But like other mattresses, there are a few things to consider before placing the order. Learn more about it, here:

Different Sleeping Positions different Needs

The sleeping position of the person is an important consideration to make while choosing a mattress as that can majorly affect comfort.

Back Sleepers: People who sleep on their backs should look for a bed that supports the natural curve of the spine. When the spine is well-supported there is no pressure on the lower back and hips and the sleeper can get a good slumber. For back sleepers, a mattress in the firmness range of 4 to 7 is ideal.

Side sleepers: One of the critical aspects for side sleepers is pressure relief. The entire body weight rests on the side and hence there will be more pressure on the hips and shoulders. The spine also tends to be curved and hence a softer mattress ensures less pressure on hips and shoulders. Wakefit recommends a medium-firm mattress which is in the firmness range of 3 to 7 is perfect for side sleepers. It boosts the spinal alignment and also cushions shoulder and hips.

Stomach Sleepers: An average individual carries most of the weight in the hips and when a sleeper lies on the stomach it sinks deeper. Due to which the natural spinal alignment is lost and hence a firmer mattress will counter the sink and provide better support. A stomach sleeper should opt for a firmness level of 4 and 7.

Size of the Mattress

The choice of size is dependent on many factors like if you are sharing it with a partner, the body size, growth expectation (in case of a teenager), the space available in the room, and the height of the sleeper. If you are taller than 6 feet and big then choose the mattress size based on the way you sleep.

California King Size: This bed size is a little narrower than the regular king-size but is longer so those who are very tall can opt for this. The California king bed length is 84 inches long and hence people up to 6’8” can sleep comfortably.

Twin-XL Size: It is of dimension 38” * 80” and is for a sleeper who is up to 6’6”. It is usually for places where space is a constraint. These beds are slightly longer than usual and are good for taller sleepers. The drawback is that it is narrow and suited for people who sleep tight.

Queen Size Mattress: This is the most popular size and is used by couples and single people who like space. It fits most standard-sized bedrooms and offers plenty of space to stretch. If you can sleep corner to corner then a length of 75” is enough for a 6’6” tall sleeper. You can tweak the length and width of the queen-size mattress depending on space availability.

King-size Mattress: A standard king-size mattress offers sufficient length for people who are about 6’6”. The reason people choose king-size over queen -size is when they want a wider mattress with more space between the sleepers. It is ideal for a couple who want to snuggle with their kid.

Custom Mattress: If the standard sizes are not ideal due to space or other because it is not long enough for your height, opt for a custom foam mattress. Manufacturers nowadays design mattress based on the dimensions you provide and make the perfect fitting bed of your choice.

Mattress Height

Different brands provide different mattress heights. The lower quality memory foam mattresses are much thinner than the erupted brands which offer more comfort layers and support layers. The ideal height of the mattress is between 5 to 8 inches as it is neither too tall nor too thin. Too thin leads to lack of comfort and too tall means problems getting in and out of the bed.

Bodyweight of the Sleeper

  • People who are lightweight and weight less than 150 pounds should sleep on a softer mattress as it reduces the pressure on joints. A firmness level of 3 to 5 is recommended.

  • People who fall in the 150 to 200 pounds range should opt for a medium-firm mattress in the range of 4 to 6 as the body does not sink into the bed and there is less pressure on shoulders and hips.

  • People who are over 200 pounds should choose a firmness range of 6 to 8 as a soft mattress does not provide support.

If you are looking to get rid of your old mattress a custom mattress is a good option. The Mattress in India that is customized should be closely reviewed for return and warranty before purchase so that you can easily return it in case it does not suit your preferences. After all, at the end of the day, the mattress you purchase should be a worthy investment and you should be happy with the product you buy.
